This is an entry level appraisal trainee position under the supervision of professional appraisal employees within the Right-of-Way Bureau of the Alabama Department of Transportation. This position requires a detailed-oriented person that would assist the senior appraisers in researching and preparing appraisal reports for a variety of property types, and according to USPAP and the Alabama Eminent  Domain law.  Opportunity for advancement to Right-of-Way Appraiser upon completion of the two-year trainee period.

Duties include, but not limited to:

• All work under the guidance and supervision of senior appraisers, right-of-way appraisers, and managers.
• Research and analyze data from public records and sources.
• Conduct field inspections of the subject and comparable properties.
• Research and analyze building construction costs and depreciation.
• Research local market trends and activity to analyze market conditions.
• Assist with the development of the highest and best use for the acquisition of real property by the agency.
• Interact with real estate brokers, property owners and tenants, engineers, surveyors, foresters, attorneys, real estate appraisers and government agencies.
• Assist with the preparation of appraisal reports and market rent studies.
• Complete appraisal education courses.

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with courses in finance, economics, marketing, management, real estate, or related fields.
• Must be able to complete the Basic Appraisal Principles, Basic Appraisal Procedures, and 15-Hour USPAP courses by the Appraisal Institute within the trainee period.
• Valid driver's license
